THESIS CHEMISTRY AND CHIRAL TECHNOLOGIES ENTER INTO A COLLABORATIVE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT
MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, CANADA AND EXTON, PENNSYLVANIA, USA—December 20, 2002—Thesis Chemistry Inc., a provider of innovative Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) development services to the pharmaceutical industry, announces a collaborative business development agreement with Chiral Technologies, Inc., a global leader in chiral chromatography products and services. Under the terms of the agreement, the parties will collaborate in the performance of specific customer service projects and the development of proprietary chemical production processes.
"Thesis Chemistry is establishing a number of strategic industry partnerships to better serve our customer's chemical development needs," says Dr. John R. Peterson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Thesis Chemistry, "Many drugs are being developed in single enantiomer form to enhance human efficacy and safety, and often times chromatography is the optimal processing method to produce these compounds. Through our partnership with Chiral Technologies, our customers access the chiral separation technologies and capabilities of a global leader."
"Chiral Technologies looks forward to working with Thesis Chemistry on projects that require a chiral resolution. Chromatography is the fastest, most expedient process for separating racemic compounds into the individual enantiomers," states Dr. Thomas B. Lewis, President and CEO of Chiral Technologies, Inc. "This collaboration is aimed at moving those projects that require a separation through the development process in the shortest time possible."
Thesis Chemistry powers pharmaceutical research and development through creative chemistry. Founded in 2002 as a private Canadian corporation, the Company manages and offers the highest-quality technical capabilities in support of CMC development of small-molecule drugs. Through core expertise in process and analytical chemistry and familiarity with the current regulatory requirements of drug development, Thesis Chemistry significantly reduces the time and cost of chemical development, while delivering innovative process solutions for the economical commercial manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). By linking specialized processing technologies and capabilities available through a network of industry partners, Thesis Chemistry brings the right technology and development capability to a project at the right time. Thesis Chemistry supports CMC development with supplies of pre-clinical and clinical API's, process design, development and optimization, analytical testing and stability, commercial API manufacture and the identification of reliable and low-cost sources of raw materials and process intermediates.
Founded in 1990, Chiral Technologies is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daicel Chemical Industries, Ltd., a multibillion-dollar Japanese chemical company with expertise in a broad range of chemical and separation technologies. The chromatography columns and bulk stationary phases supplied by Chiral Technologies are the most widely referenced and used chiral chromatography products in the world. Chiral Technologies operates its Custom Chromatography Separations Center in Exton, PA using single column high performance liquid and supercritical fluid chromatography (HPLC and SFC) systems, and simulated moving bed (SMB) equipment.
